MCIPR MA
A specialist in EU public affairs, with years of practice in both direct and indirect lobbying, Maria is now using the experience she has previously gained to focus on new projects as an independent consultant. Having worked on a varied number of project briefs including legislative proposals involving the Private Health Sector in the UK as well as specific European projects, Maria is best known for her achievements on behalf of a leading European battery manufacturer where she had the overall responsibility of devising and executing public affairs activities relating to batteries and heavy metals issues which successfully resulted in a 5-year strategy on battery legislation. Maria continues to advise small companies and associations on EU lobbying on an ad-hoc basis, from both the perspective of her specialism in the heavy metal industry and her continual evolving briefs in environmental relations and sustainable development.
Over the last 10 years Maria has acted as a political assistant to the president of the World Federation of Cypriots, Greek Cypriot Brotherhood and National Federation of Cypriots in the UK promoting awareness about the Cyprus problem amongst politicians and opinion formers in the UK Parliament and at major UK political events.
Maria’s love for languages and politics led her to resign from her previous Airline Executive post and to become a mature student, studying in several European countries, finally graduating in 1996 from the University of Exeter with an MA (distinction) in European Public Relations. Maria worked as trainee consultant with European Strategy in Brussels and Westminster Strategy in London as part of her studies from 1995-1996, and has worked in public affairs since 1997. She speaks seven languages: Greek, English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Swedish.
Maria is a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations in the UK, member of the Government Affairs Group, member of the Royal Academy of Arts and of the Greek Cypriot Brotherhood.
